About Us

June Lamb - founder of Horses Can Be Fun Pty Ltd

I think I have loved horses since the day I was born. My mother was teaching my older sister to ride so her friend, Mary (a real 'bush' lady), taught me. I was so small when I was first riding that I still remember holding the saddle up against the side of the horses belly (Shadow) and inching it upwards until it would go onto the horses back just to saddle up. Yes, I was rather small and getting the girth done up tight enough was a big issue so I often had to deal with loose saddles slipping on me. I remember being out riding and Adults used to say "my, isn't that a big horse for you?" and I used to get so upset because I thought their comments were very indignant! Once I had to teach my own children I realised just how small a 4yr old was on a 15hh horse. Standing against gates/fences/tree stumps became an art for me as I was too small to mount normally.

My parents bought many horses over the first few years of my life and I was very lucky to ride most of them. I used to ride out to my friend, Christine's farm, put my horse in the yards for the day whilst I played and then saddle up and ride home again.
During mid primary school circumstances changed and I no longer had a ready supply of horses so I used to go around town and look for the horses that appeared to be not used and left in paddocks for long periods of time. Then I would track down the owners and ask if I could ride these horses. The answers were usually along these lines "horse is unridable but if you think you can then you are welcome to give it a go", so I spent a few years honing my skills on what I call 'Remedial' horses. It was always sad when the owners would watch in pleasure at me riding and then take their horses back for themselves as they were now usable again. I am very grateful for that experience as it was invaluable for me over those few years.

Eventually we had our own horses again and I have always had horses since. I am fourth generation horse person and it was in my mid 30's that I realised just how blessed I was to have all this knowledge and experience. I have taught people to ride all my life, aged from barely walking through to middle age and I guess I take it for granted that I seem to understand how the horse thinks and moves. Over the years many people have told me I have an unusual ability to put in words, in an easily understandable manner for beginners, just what the horse thinks and most importantly why - I attribute this mainly to my years with Remedial horses and my sound background with horses (being 4th generation).

My Granddad and Great Grandfather both had teams of working horses and worked from Qld down through Vic with them.

I attended Pony Club for a few years and was a founding member of the Wangaratta Show Jumping Club which was later absorbed into the Wangaratta Adult Riding Club (HRCAV). I have been on the committee of 4 different HRCAV clubs over the years and am still heavily involved with the HRCAV now. I competed EFA for a few years as well. Eventing and Trail riding were my main love and now Dressage is taking a front row seat. I started teaching people in my late teenager years and continued to teach when ever there was an opportunity through clubs and private lessons.

I was doing my NCAS/EFA 1 in my early adult life until my family commitments required me to concentrate on more our farm and home life for a few more of those years. I assisted 'breaking in' for a friend during my teens and then was lucky enough to learn quite a bit from my husband and father-in-law who both 'broke in' horses. I fully broke in my first horse when I was in my early 20's. Currently, I am redoing my coaching accreditation through Horse Riding Coach.com
I have been truly blessed with all my experience and the people who have trained me and I also enjoy helping others progress with their journey of Equestrian pursuits. Thank you for taking the time to read about my life with horses.
Shaun.
